Let me tell you that being a beekeeper is not a honey lick. However, I always considered starting my own company as an adventurous journey that offered me unique opportunities. In short, I managed to turn my passion for bees into a profitable business. How? I will tell you some information behind the scenes of the creation of the Bee House.
How did I start?
I started like any beekeeper - I was fascinated by bees. Bagging honey is a fascinating process, don't you think? In addition, honey is very healthy and since we have two small children at home, I wanted to try it all, first for my own needs. I am also a member of a historical group dedicated to the reconstruction of medieval crafts, and to "make" my own honey, which was probably the most widely used sweetener in the Middle Ages, was a huge added value. I was really into it then.
However, it would not be possible without a financial injection
Two families became three, ten, and now I take care of over 100 bee families not only on our farm, but our bees pollinate flowers and bring sweet nectar to hives in Bratislava, for example.
The growing interest in honest honey from a local beekeeper made me sincerely happy, so naturally I wanted to move the business forward a bit. In addition, I was given the opportunity to use the Slovenská sporiteľna program for budding entrepreneurs. I was able to realize my goals better and in less time.
What do I enjoy about it?
I confess that I am not at all the type of person who could lock myself in the office for 8 hours every day and only come out for lunch. I like the flexibility and autonomy associated with working with bees, honey in connection with nature and people. I like the creativity when we always try to come up with a new interesting product that would add value to our honey.
And that's how beeswax candles were first created, a wooden honey "scoop" was added, we used bee propolis for propolis tincture, we offer the opportunity to spend a day at our farm with colleagues. And calmly with the boss too. And little by little, an apiary began to be created, which you have become very fond of together with apitherapy. And who also gave our brand its name - Včelí dom.
My business has become my lifestyle. And I couldn't have done better. You can see my story here: https://www.slsp.sk/sk/biznis/zaciname-podnikat/clanky-pribehy/viktor-wercholak-vceli-dom
I would also like to encourage you along this path - all creative people and those with a good idea. It is natural to have fear and respect before deciding to start your own business.
I recently took another step forward in my sweet honey business in Včeľý dom, when we launched an e-shop. A small step for humanity, a big one for one beekeeper from the Little Carpathians.
